Dubrovnik, Croatia
We entered Port Gruz in Dubrovnik this morning at 8:00am to
overcast, windy conditions, but it quickly turned to a partly cloudy sky.
During our taxi ride to the Old City, the
driver pointed out some sights and gave us a bit of a background into the city
and the country. We arrived at the Pile
Gate, entrance to the walled city, and strolled down the main street that was
marble-lined as we found most of the city streets and gutters to be as well.
We walked down many small side streets, getting lost at times, and enjoyed the early morning awakening of the city before it became crowded with tourists. The narrow alleyways with steps going high into the mountainside were amazing, and to think people still lived and worked within the walled fortress.
We decided to walk back to the ship along the seacoast road
and at the top of a big hill, a sea squall came in. We took shelter under a store canopy and 10
minutes later it stopped with the streets and sidewalks a torrent of
runoff. Then it started to rain again
for another short period. We ran out of
sidewalks, walked in ditches, and looked like drowned vagabonds.
Finally saw the ship!
But getting to them seemed impossible!
We finally made it and now we “HOME”!
We depart shortly for Corfu, Greece, arriving tomorrow
morning. We have 6 ports back-to-back on
this stretch!! YIKES!!
That storm sounds bad. At least your whole day wasn't rainy. Is the last picture your ship?
ReplyDeleteNot our ship but we'll send one soon! :-)
DeleteNO! I'm bummed you had rain here- one of my favorite places! At least you were still able to experience Old Town and its charming, narrow streets.
ReplyDeleteAnd thank goodness you guys didn't get swept out to sea! Wish I could have seen a photo of the drowned vagabonds.
