City Tour of Cartagena
We picked up this fellow leaving Malaga last night :-):-)
We arrived at port at 7:30am and were here only a short
time, leaving at 3:30pm, but what an adventure!!
Cartagena is an ancient city dating back to its Carthaginian
founding in 227 BC. It is amazing the
ruins that are still being unearthened throughout the city.
We had a leisurely start and entered a block of street
vendors and passed city hall and the main shopping district. We also passed the Gran Hotel that is still
in existence – beautiful architecture influenced by Vienna and France.
At the end of the shopping district we climbed to the Molinette Archaeological Park that is being dug showing a lot of ruins in their original
state. We then passed the Basilica de la Caridad which has a beautiful dome.
We walked up the hill to the Roman Amphitheater that was
discovered in 1987 and is still being used as an outdoor theater to this day. This had to be the highlight of the trip!!!
Above it on the top of the hill is the old bull fighting ring and the Castle of the Conception that houses the history museum of Cartagena.

Love seeing these sights through the blog. Miss you, but I know you are having the time of your lives!
ReplyDeleteFun!
ReplyDeleteThis has to be one of the prettiest Roman amphitheaters i've seen, and then on top of that it has those beautiful city and mountains views!
