City Tour of Malaga
Malaga is one of the oldest inhabited cities in Europe. Founded by the Phoenicians, because of the
salt which was a valued commodity and used for currency at that time. The ship
docked early and a moon over Malaga was gorgeous, and our picture didn’t do it
justice, but…
We had a leisurely start and saw the old port lighthouse and
chapel on our walk to the start of our city walking tour.
There were a number of places where the Muslim
buildings/mosques were destroyed, partially or totally, to make way for
Christian cathedrals, using the same materials.
The Roman Amphitheater was discovered in 1951 and had been covered
by the Al Cazaba fortress until then.
The theater is still used as an outdoor theater to this day.
We walked up the hill to the side of the fortress and saw
that the fortress wall was, at that time, the edge of the sea. As you can see by the picture below much lad
has been reclaimed to a park and government.
Inside the park can be found one species of each tree from all around
the world.
The end of our day in Malaga -- a beautiful sunset!!
Malaga sounds fun and beautiful! I love the pictures of the landscape! I'll have to hear which one is your favorite city when you come back.
